Two new books…

…recently added to my home library are:

Learning the New Breviary

Learning the New Breviary by Bernard A. Hausmann, S.J.

The title word “new” is rather misleading today, as it actually refers to the new code of rubrics promulgated in July 1960 for the traditional Roman Breviary.

In this handy, concise and easy-to-read book, Fr. Hausmann leads the reader step by step through each of the 8 canonical hours, their contents, special particulars, and how they are said, all the while providing important tips on how to recite the Divine Office with a correct liturgical spirit.

and:

2009 Ordo

The 2009 Ordo.

Known as an “Ordering of Prayer” the Ordo’s official English title is:

Order of Reciting the Divine Office and Observing the Sacrifice of the Mass for the Year of Our Lord 2009; With Mass Propers for the USA Dioceses

This English-language Ordo is indispensable for the clergy and laity alike who follow the traditional (1962) Roman Missal and Breviary. Of course, it is also a must for every sacristy!

These are a text book I’ll study and a reference book I’ll be consulting throughout the upcoming year as guides to help me pray the Officium Divinum properly.
