Sitting at his campfire after a day of tracking the Red Mask, Jonah is attacked by an Apache warrior. Too bad for the Apache as Jonah grabs his kinfe-arm with one hand, and shoots the top of his head off through his open mouth.
This moment of violence comes from Jonah Hex #31, written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, with art by Paulo Siqueira and Amilton Santos, a cover by Richard Corben, and carrying a publication date of July 2008 from DC Comics.
The commercial blurb for this comic book, found at the publisher’s site:
Who is the Red Mask? Jonah Hex has been hired to track down and eliminate this elusive thief…but will he succeed before the Red Mask can claim another victim? Featuring stunning art by Paulo Siqueira and Amilton Santos (BLACK CANARY) and a cover by the legendary Richard Corben!
The book’s plot is direct and straight-forward, as we expect from a Western. And the artwork matches the mood of the story told perfectly. Jonah Hex #31 is one more fine issue of this title I’m happy to have in my collection.
