- AP :: New Evidence of Earliest North Americans
WASHINGTON (AP) — New evidence shows humans lived in North America more than 14,000 years ago, 1,000 years earlier than had previously been known. Discovered in a cave in Oregon, fossil feces yielded DNA indicating these early residents were related to people living in Siberia and East Asia, according to a report in Thursday’s online edition of the journal Science.
- Wired :: Store Your Comics Properly
All right, admit it: you’re smart enough to know that your comic collection probably won’t make you a millionaire. On the other hand, you enjoy the form and you want to keep your books as nice as possible. What can you do to keep your four-color wonders safe and secure?
[There's good, basic advice here. However, I'd like to suggest using "short boxes" rather than "long boxes" for storage. If you're a smaller dude, an older dude, or a female, those full long boxes are one hell of a lot heavier than the full short boxes. When I was younger (and stronger) I used long boxes, but now all my stuff is in short boxes ... lots and lots of short boxes. -R]
- USA Today :: Pirates seize French cruising yacht off Somalia
Pirates have seized a French cruising yacht off the coast of Somalia, with 30 crewmembers and no passengers onboard, according to the cruise line.
[One does wonder why this is considered "news." Pirates have been active on the ocean forever, attacking and seizing boats, stealing stuff, holding folks for ransom and killing them, especially near the coast of Somalia. -R]
- Los Angeles Times :: Mexico reconquers California? Absolut drinks to that!
The latest advertising campaign in Mexico from Swedish vodka maker Absolut promises to push all the right buttons south of the U.S. border, but it could ruffle a few feathers in El Norte.
[Bull shit! This is not only offensive propoganda, it's also historically wrong! These were NOT the Mexico/USA boundaries at the time of the 1848 War! Texas, MUCH larger back then than now, had already won independence from Mexico and was its own independent country! I'll NEVER buy another Absolut product! -R]
- Michelle Malkin :: Mexican Mayor charged with running a cocaine-smuggling ring
And speaking of criminal charges and shady connections to Mexican narcotraffickers, over in Corpus Christi it looks like major Democratic donor (and Hillary donor!) Mauricio Celis may finally be charged with money laundering for Mexican cartels today.
[It's important to keep in mind that in Mexico the lines between organized crime, the military, and the government are often very, very blurry. What would be considered horrible corruption in the US (except in the Democrat Party, I guess) is just normal, every day life south of the border. -R]

By Emmett Tyrrell
WASHINGTON — Regarding the present economic apprehensions, may I counsel calm and good sense. As for those agitated voices in the chorus, ululating of our dire straits and even of depression and doom, remember they have been out there for years. Generally speaking, they are opportunistic liberals itching for power. It is not surprising that their lamentations are so frequent but that they are so monotonous, for they have yet to be occasioned by either depression or doom. A pause here, a pause there, otherwise the American economy just keeps growing.
[Imho, Tyrrell is absolutely right. -R]

Actually, the lines between organized crime, the military, and the government are often very, very blurry in this country too. I used to work with a guy whose Dad was a judge down in Uvalde, Texas. The drug lords were always trying to bribe him.
Have you seen American Gangster with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe yet, Roscoe? I really liked it. It deals with heroin trafficking during the Vietnam War.

Hearing about that judge in Uvalde reminds me of a SA woman who wanted to “get together” with me shortly after I moved to town. (No, we never got together.) She told me her Grandpa was a judge and one of her “boyfriends” was a Sheriff. Said we could have all kinds of fun and never worry about getting in trouble. Yeah. Right.
